The history of Erawan Thai Restaurant & Bar spans over three decades, linking generations of hospitality to the ever-evolving culinary landscape of Los Angeles. The journey of the culinary team behind Erawan dates back to 1988, when they first began establishing a masterclass of hospitality in the city.
The Hollywood Revival (2026) Following a period of transition away from its long-standing Melrose footprint, the legendary brand marked its highly anticipated “Return of a Legend” by opening a modern flagship venue in August 2026.
Evolution of the Concept:
- The Past: The original Melrose model relied heavily on a maximalist, antique-laden environment—replicating an aristocratic wooden Thai home with heavy brass bells, tapestries, and ornate structures.
- The Present: The Hollywood flagship pivots to a cleaner, high-contrast, modern architectural aesthetic. It relies on ambient, moody lighting to create an intimate, sophisticated evening atmosphere that feels upscale yet accessible
The Food:
Its menu balanced traditional soul with vibrant ingredients, featuring highly praised signature dishes like Meang Kum, Mussaman Lamb Curry and their staple coconut-milk based Chicken Yellow Curry, which has remained a customer favorite since its introduction in 1988.
The Bar Programs:
The modern iteration transitions the 35+ years of service expertise into a sleek space that pairs time-honored Thai cooking techniques with an expanded, vibrant bar program featuring specialized Thai-style cocktails, hard liquor, and late-night small plates.
